Yuletide Letter 2010

Dear Yuletide author,

Thank you so much for signing up for Yuletide this year! It's a big commitment during the holiday season, especially if you're still in school as the semester ends. So thank you for making the time and brain commitment to bring small fandom joy to someone you don't even know.

Just a quick note on my dislikes before I dive into what I love about my fandoms: I really dislike rape/dub con/non con and incest in the things I read. I know that these are important issues that people can deal with respectfully and meaningfully in their fiction, but I have difficulty approaching these in fictional works in a way that doesn't leave me upset, so I would appreciate it if what you wrote didn't include these topics.

I'd also appreciate it if what you wrote wasn't smut. I feel weird asking a stranger to write porn for me -- like I've let someone borrow my underwear. Mature issues and language are fine, just not explicit sex scenes.

Now, onto the squee!Collapse )

Author: loathlylady
Word Count: 1567
Fandom: Shakespeare -- Romeo & Juliet
Summary: Rosaline contemplates Romeo, among other things.
Pairing/Characters: Rosaline, Romeo
Spoilers: You should probably be familiar with the play.
Rating: PG? PG-13? There's a sex pun in there, but it's pretty subtle.
Notes: Originally written for Ducky for Yuletide 2008. See it here in its original form. I just I finally went through and cleaned up all the typos, etc.

Dear people who are looking for fic,

This is not fic. This is my "dear goat" letter for Yuletide this year. Fic will return shortly, once I nut up. But if you want to comment and say, "Ooh, I totes agree with your analysis of 30 Rock's splendid bits!" or "Um, interesting thoughts but here is why Mad Men is the cat's meow," then by all means, go ahead. I cannot stop you!

Much love,
The person who is me

Five Things to Impress Josh (Part 1 of 1)

music: So Ha -- Splashdown
posted by: msmcknittington in loathlylady

Title: Five Things to Impress Josh (Part 1 of 1)
Author: msmcknittington
Word Count: ~2500
Pairing/Character: Grizz, Dot Com, Josh, Liz, a little bit of Grizz/Beth
Rating: weak PG-13/strong PG (I drop the s-bomb, but there's no graphic sexuality or anything.)
Summary: Grizz and Dot Com contemplate the ineffability of Josh Girard.
Spoilers/Season/Episode etc: Through the end of the second season. I started writing this a long time ago, and I can’t really remember when that was. Nothing that will ruin the show for you if you aren’t caught up, for sure.
Notes: Complete! I’m not too sure about this one, but it has its moments. One of my goals before NaNoWriMo begins is to finish all the half-written things on my computer, and this was next on the list. I think this was inspired by a conversation in the comments in michellek’s journal many months ago.

The Lemon Party (Part 1 of 1)

Title: The Lemon Party
Author: msmcknittington
Word Count: ~1600
Pairing/Character: Liz, a little bit of Jack but not in the flesh
Rating: PG
Summary: You get a reputation for ordering extra bread, Hassidic diamond merchants show up, and then all of the sudden you’re a maverick. Part 1 of 1
Spoilers/Season/Episode etc: I don’t think there are any spoilers at all in this. The first episode? The fact that the show exists? Tina Fey’s doppelganger? Liz's distaste for Dennis Duffy? At any rate, I have really got to cut the crack out of my diet. Weirdest crossover, ever.

General Note: People who have been reading my "Mistah Kurtz, He Dead" series will be happy to know that it is being worked on. Hooray! It will be finished before NaNo starts in November. Sorry for the delay -- my sister got hitched and I was in the wedding and real life got more important than fake fake life.

The Mirror Crack'd (10th Kingdom)

Jul. 20th, 2008 | 04:28 am
posted by: msmcknittington in loathlylady

Title: The Mirror Crack'd
Characters: Acorn, OC
Rating: PG-13? (One swear, some blood, cuddling outside of marriage; I'd let a 12-year-old read it)
Word Count: ~2,000
Summary: How did Acorn get that scar across his face?

Notes: Short story, complete, also posted at ff.net. I find the Nine Kingdoms fascinating from an anthropological/political/social viewpoint. It's an incredible, dark, complicated world, and I'd love it if we could see more of the criminal element. I mean, how fascinating is someone who purposely fractures happily ever after, but isn't a villain? I also very much like Acorn's character -- he's not a winner, no doubt, but he's still very human (dwarf?), and I think he probably has a complicated, compelling backstory.

The Mirror Crack'dCollapse )

Please read and review if you think it's even passably good. Or if you don't!
